Coconut Rice / Thengai Sadam

Coconut Rice (தேங்காய் சாதம்) is one of the famous variety rice in south india. This rice can be prepared in a very short time and this will taste very nice even without any side dish. My favourite combination is potato chips with coconut rice. Try this @ your home and share your comments :)

Ingredients :

1 cup
Grated Coconut
¾ cup
Green Chillies
1 tbsp
Curry Leaves
1 Sprig
Channa dal
2 tsp
Urad dal
2 tsp
Mustard seeds
1 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing
A pinch
Cashew Nuts
6 – 8

Steps :

  • Soak rice in water for 10 mins and cooked in such a way that grains are separated,grate the coconut and keep it ready.

  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when they splutter, add channa dal, urad dal, cashew nuts and peanuts roast till it becomes slightly brown.

  • Add curry leaves,green chillies, asafoetida and and sauté for a 3 seconds.
  • Add the grated coconut and stir for 5 or until the coconut gets toasted and turns slightly brown.

  • Add cooked rice and mix it well. Serve with papads or chips or potato fry.
