Adai Dosa( Lentil Dosa)|Kara Adai |Easy BreakFast Recipe


Adai is the traditional southindian breakfast recipe can be made with combination of dals and rice.it is a healthy recipe with full of proteins.The batter is thicker and coarser than the regular dosa batter and it does not require any fermentation.It is very simple to prepare and goes well with avial and coconut chutney.

Ingredients :

Serves (13-15 Adai dosa)

Rice(Regular Rice)
½ cup
Idli Rice
½ cup
Channa dal / Bengal Gram
1/3 cup
Toor Dal
1/3 cup
Moong Dal
¼ cup
Urad Dal
3 tbsp
Red Chillies
7
Grated Coconut
1/3 cup
Curry Leaves
1 sprig
Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Hing / Asafoetida
A pinch
Salt
To Taste

To The Batter :


Onion (big one)

Green Chillies
4
Coriander leaves
1/3 cup(Chopped)
Carrot(Grated)
1(Optional)
Ginger(Grated)
½ inch


Steps :

  1. Soak rice and dal separately for 5 hrs or overnight.
  2. Dry roast the red chillies and cumin seeds for sec.
  3. Grind the urad dal first and keep aside.
  4. Then grind the rice and red chillies to rava consistency,then add dals together with grated coconut,curry leaves and cumin seeds to a coarse batter and add the urad dal batter and mix well.
  5. Add the required salt and Hing/Asafoetida mix well and keep aside for one hour.If you want you can immediately prepare adai dosa with this.
  6. Add finely chopped onion,green chillies,coriander leaves,Ginger and grated carrot into the batter and mix well.
  7. Heat the dosa tawa and pour a laddle of batter and spread the batter as we do for dosa.Add tsp of oil around it and let it gets cooked and turn other side and cook till golden brown.
  8. Serve hot with Chutney or avial.

  1. This looks like a tasty quick-fix recipe!! Can Idli Rice be substituted with anything?...We don't get it easily here!!

    1. You can use Normal rice(Ponni or sona massori) also instead of idli Rice :)
