Chickpeas vada - Good Tea time snack

It was chilly evening and light drizzles for a long time. In my house I was watching tele and felt bored. I would have asked vada if my mom was there. I was bit lazy to cook vada because I need to soak dal for a long time. I checked my kitchen and I found I soaked chick peas for dinner. This triggered me to prepare vada with soaked chick peas.. I followed same steps of making masala vada with one change, I used chick peas instead channa dal, In fact chick peas tasted better with masala tea. Give a try, you will not be disappointed :)

Ingredients :

Chickpeas(Soaked 5 hrs)
1 cup
Onion
2(Medium size)
Green Chillies
3
Ginger
½ inch
Garlic
2 cloves
Mint Leaves
Few
Fennel Seeds
1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves
Few
Cumin Seeds
1 tsp
Salt
As needed
Oil
For Deep Frying

Steps :
  • Soak chickpeas for 5-6 hours. First grind ginger, garlic, chillies and fennel coarsely.

  • Then drain chickpeas completely and add it in two batches and grind coarsely. Not too smooth not very coarse too. Refer picture.

  • Mix finely chopped onion, coriander and mint, salt and curry leaves.

  • Keep a bowl with water and wet both hands. Make equal sized balls first for uniform sized vadas. Heat oil in kadai meanwhile. Shape each ball to flat patties of medium thickness.

  • Deep fry in hot oil until golden in colour, flipping once in between. Always cook in medium flame to ensure even cooking and golden colour. When you drop oil, heat should be high. Simmer after you drop all vadas and cook in medium flame until done. Drain in paper towel

I am sending this to Nupur's Whats with my cuppa
