Split Green Moong dal vada

Who doesn't like hot snack for this chill evening?That too hot and spicy vada with a cup of tea is a great combination:-)Most of us know how to prepare Masala vada but its something new for some of us like me...Yes I have tasted this moong dal vada after marriage only...I learned the recipe from my mother-in-law and she learned from her mother-in-law.. I am thinking of teaching this to my daughter-in-law in future to make this vada as a family dish :-) Moong dal vada is full of protein and of-course very easy to make..These make for a very yummy and a (relatively) quick snack for a tea time-party or just to treat your family on a weekend evening.


Splitted Green Moong Dal
1 cup
1 inch
Green Chillies
Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Mint Leaves
1 tbsp
Coriander Leaves
1 tbsp
As needed
For Deep Frying


  • Soak the Moong dal for 1 hr,drain the water and set aside.
  • First grind the Ginger and Green chillies coarsely.
  • Then drain Moong dal completely  and grind coarsely. Not too smooth not very coarse too.
  • Mix finely chopped onion, coriander and mint and salt.
  • Make equal sized balls.Heat oil in kadai meanwhile.
  • Deep fry in hot oil until golden,flipping once in between. Always cook in medium flame to ensure even cooking and golden colour. Drain in paper towel .
  • Serve hot with a cup of tea/cofee.
