Misal Pav ~ SNC Challenge

Misal Pav is a Mumbai based street food. I have never tasted this before I made this today for South vs North challenge.This is the first time am participating in the challenge.Our friend and fellow blogger Divya Pramil from youtoocancookindianfood started this group. SNC(South vs North challenge) is a challenge between North and South indian teams. Based on our culinary expertise, we are either North team or South team. I belong to South team and I have to make the dish that the North team challenge us to make and vice versa for other team.This month challenge by the South team is hosted by Sherin of Kuk'sKitchen and the challenge is to make Medu Vadas.On the other hand Meena of Random Ramblings North team has challenged us to make Misal Pav.This recipe was totally new to me and thanks to Divya and Meena for giving us a platform to learn new recipes of Indian origin.So here's goes my entry to this month's challenge.



Ingredients:

For the Paste :

Onion
1 Big one
Tomato
1 Big one
Garlic
4 cloves
Ginger
½ inch
Grated coconut
2 tbsp
Green Chilli
4

For the Curry :

Cumin seeds
½ tsp
Turmeric Powder
½ tsp
Red chilli Powder
½ tsp
Coriander Powder
½ tsp
Amchoor Powder
½ tsp
Oil
2 tsp
Dried White Peas
1 cup
Mixed Farsan/Mixture
As needed
Pav Buns
As needed
Coriander leaves
As needed





Method :
  1. Wash and soak dried white peas overnight and cook peas till soft.
  2. Heat a tsp of oil in kadai add chopped onions fry for 2 mins then add ginger and garlic fry till raw smell disappears.
  3. Add green chillies and chopped tomatoes let it cook till mushy.
  4. Add grated coconut and mix well 2 mins in medium flame and remove in a plate.
  5. Cool the mixture and grind to a smooth paste.
  6. In same pan add 2 tsp of oil and add cumin seeds.
  7. Once it splutters add all the masalas(turmeric,chill,coriander,amchoor powder).
  8. To this add the grinded paste and salt mix well and add water as needed to get right consistency which is almost gravy type.
  9. Let it boil for 5 mins until thick.
  10. While serving, top it with mixture,chopped onions and chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with pav buns.
